Papervision3D - Animated Movie Asset Material

March 20th, 2008 . Posted by brad in Flash, Papervision3D

I’ve been playing around with the animated property of the movie materials the last couple of days, because let’s face it, animated textures are pretty damn cool. The only things you need to do to set this up is to set the animated property of your material to true, and then to set up an enterFrame listener to render the scene.

If you set the smooth property of your material to true, then be sure to also set tiled to true or your movie may lock up at at certain angles.

Cool stuff, man! I’ve just recently been experimenting with just the same thing:

Yours looks especially good with the shading. I’ll have to try that!

Thanks Vin. I like your site!! The naughty inhabitants shooting game is great :-)

The shading in this example was created by doing a radiosity render and then applying it over the animated movie material using a multiply blend mode, to knock out all the white.

hi buddy. it’s really cool, right now i have some question.
movieAssetMat = new MovieAssetMaterial(”FlashTex2″, false, true); FlashTex2 is fla movie clip ? could you post fla file?

    Hey Ferris,

You’re right, FlasTex2 is the linked class for a mc in the library.

You’re welcome to download the bunny.zip folder with the materials demo fla. This contains the animated movieclip you’re after.

I never got round to cleaning up the library, so you’ll be knee high in tween soup :-)
